North Korea Threatens Military Strikes on South

North Korea escalated its vitriol against South Korea and the United States on Wednesday with warnings of a “powerful military strike” if any North Korean ships were stopped or searched as part of an American-led operation to intercept vessels suspected of carrying unconventional weapons.

South Korea agreed to join the operation after North Korea tested a nuclear device on Monday, its second nuclear test in three years. The North had earlier warned the South not to participate in the operation, known as the Proliferation Security Initiative.

“We consider this a declaration of war against us,” North Korea said in a statement carried by its official news agency, KCNA. “Any hostile act against our peaceful vessels, including search and seizure, will be considered an unpardonable infringement on our sovereignty, and we will immediately respond with a powerful military strike.”

If I had a nickel for every time these saber rattling blowhards announced that “(fill in the blank) will be considered an act of war and we will annihilate you if you dare do this…” I could stop buying lottery tickets. Let them build their bombs. People can’t eat weapons grade plutonium. And they can’t use those bombs.

Not even that wack job in Pyongyang is crazy enough not to grasp that his country would be turned into a giant glow in the dark parking lot in the space of about 20 minutes from the moment he detonates one of his bombs in a foreign country. I say let them build their useless bombs. Tanks and artillery worry me. Atom bombs don’t (other than in the hands of islamists who don’t care if they get nuked into oblivion).

His country’s economy is arguably one of the worst in the world. At some point its going to come crashing down. Let them eat radioactive isotopes.

#1 you are probably right but I would feel better and safer if
we had a more experienced crew in the White House. This world is indeed an untidy place.

A petulant child, allowed to get his way and bully the other kids eventually turns into an aggressive adult with the ability to do real harm.

You don’t think that wack job would keep the bomb to himself do you? Radical Islamists would certainly be beneficiaries in that regard

No. 2: the last crew at the (extended) White House were about as experienced as one could find , at least on paper. Look where that got us. But, I take your point.

    Re #4,
    Rudydog,
I think that’s why they are throwing their latest tantrum. The international community is planning to interdict shipping going to and from N. Korea and search vessels suspected of transporting inappropriate toys.

If the North Koreans carry out their threat…..something which I seriously doubt they have the nerve to do…..I wouldn’t give a plug nickel for their chances of survival.

I’m inclinded to agree with #7. Many years ago my brother in-law *(Air Force) made a statement to the effect that if a certain major nation ever dropped one of those nuclear devices on our territory they might as well land their bombers on our territory brcause very few of their bases would be operable.
